People are often only familiar with chiropractic adjustments that involve the signature “pop” — thanks, YouTube! In the chiropractic world, we call those manual adjustments. You might also hear chiropractors refer to them as diversified adjustments. While these have traditionally been the most popular technique among chiropractors, newer methods are gaining traction and becoming increasingly favored in practices today.

We perform plenty of manual adjustments — and we’re considered pretty darn good at them — but many of these newer techniques are just as effective and tend to be gentler on the body.

Here are a few of the additional methods we offer at Performance Family Chiropractic:

  • Activator This handheld instrument delivers a precise, controlled percussion to the vertebra to improve mobility. It’s especially popular for treating children or injuries that are highly sensitive to touch.

  • Erchonia Adjustor Similar to the Activator, but electrically powered for even greater precision and consistency.

  • Drop Table While the patient lies on the table, gentle pressure is applied to joints (such as the pelvis). A small section of the table is raised about half an inch. When pressure is applied, the section drops quickly, delivering a comfortable, low-force thrust that helps the joint move more freely.

  • Flexion Distraction This specialized table bends at several points and is balanced with hydraulic pressure. It allows the chiropractor to gently mobilize the spine in a slow, rhythmic, controlled manner while the patient remains relaxed and lying down. It’s particularly helpful for patients with inflamed or bulging discs.

  • Soft Tissue Manipulation Far more than just stretching, this technique involves locating trigger points or extremely tight muscles and applying targeted, strategic pressure to release tension. It may also include “pin-and-stretch” methods, where the practitioner pins the muscle with their hand, fingers, or thumb and moves the joint through its range of motion to restore freedom of movement.

This list is just a glimpse of the tools and techniques we use to help our patients. At Performance Family Chiropractic, we believe in treating each person according to what their body actually needs — not a one-size-fits-all approach. Your chiropractor should do the same!
