Pediatric Chiropractic Care in Apex, NC

Gentle, Age-Appropriate Care for Infants, Children, and Teens

Children’s bodies are constantly changing. From the physical demands of birth and learning to walk to playground tumbles, heavy backpacks, sports, and growth spurts, every stage of childhood brings new challenges for the muscles and joints.

At Performance Family Chiropractic, we provide gentle, individualized chiropractic care for children of all ages—from newborns only a few days old through teenagers and young adults. Our goal is to help children move comfortably, stay active, and receive the right care for their specific needs.

Chiropractic Care for Infants

Many mothers who receive chiropractic care during pregnancy choose to have their babies evaluated after birth. Labor and delivery are significant physical events for both mother and baby, and some parents want reassurance that their newborn appears to be moving comfortably.

Caring for an infant is very different from adjusting an adult. Our doctors modify every examination and treatment according to the child’s age, size, development, comfort, and reason for visiting. Techniques used with babies are exceptionally gentle and involve very little pressure.

An infant’s visit may include observing:

  • Head and neck movement

  • Comfort turning the head in both directions

  • Muscle tension

  • General movement and symmetry

  • Discussing concerns reported by the parents

Parents tell us that their babies appear more comfortable or sleep better after care. While chiropractic treatment is not presented as a cure for sleep problems, colic, reflux, infections, or other pediatric medical conditions, parents often report notable improvements after treatment. We recommend you see a chiropractor that follows this evidence based approach.

Chiropractic Care as Children Grow

Childhood is active. Running, jumping, falling, playing, sitting at school, using electronics, and carrying backpacks can all place demands on a growing body. Children may also experience muscle or joint discomfort associated with all kinds of activities.

Parents commonly bring their children to our office for:

  • Back or neck discomfort

  • Muscle and joint aches

  • Sports-related injuries

  • Limited or uncomfortable movement

  • Postural concerns

  • Discomfort associated with backpacks or prolonged sitting

  • Recovery after a fall or minor injury

  • Guidance on mobility, flexibility, and age-appropriate exercise

A child should not be expected to simply “grow out of” persistent pain. Pain that continues, interferes with normal activity, wakes a child at night, follows a significant injury, or occurs with fever, weakness, numbness, unexplained weight loss, or other concerning symptoms requires appropriate evaluation.

Chiropractic Care for Young Athletes

Young athletes place unique demands on their bodies. Repetitive practices, rapid increases in training, growth spurts, and competition can contribute to stiffness, soreness, overuse problems, and movement limitations.

Our performance-focused care for young athletes may include:

  • Evaluation of muscles and joints

  • Gentle joint mobilization or adjustment when appropriate

  • Soft-tissue treatment

  • Flexibility and mobility work

  • Age-appropriate strengthening exercises

  • Movement and injury-prevention guidance

  • Recommendations for returning to activity

  • Referral for imaging, pediatric care, orthopedics, or physical therapy when necessary

We don’t promise that an adjustment will make a child run faster, throw harder, or immediately become a better athlete. Instead, we work to address musculoskeletal problems that may be limiting their movement, training, or participation.

What Is a Pediatric Chiropractic Visit Like?

Every visit begins with a conversation with the parent or guardian. We will ask about the child’s health history, birth history when relevant, development, activities, symptoms, previous injuries, and the family’s concerns.

The examination is tailored to the child and may include observation of posture and movement, range-of-motion testing, gentle palpation, basic orthopedic or neurological testing, and an assessment of the muscles and joints.

Treatment is never one-size-fits-all. The amount of pressure and the techniques used for a newborn are completely different from those used for a teenager. We explain our findings and recommendations, answer questions, and obtain parental consent before providing treatment. We will never force treatment on a child who is frightened or uncomfortable.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care at Performance Family Chiropractic

Families choose Performance Family Chiropractic because we take the time to listen, perform a careful evaluation, and adapt care to each patient. Children are not simply treated like smaller adults. Every recommendation is based on the child’s age, development, symptoms, and comfort level.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can a child receive chiropractic care?

We have experience evaluating patients from only a few days old through adulthood. Techniques and treatment recommendations are always modified according to the child’s age, size, development, and individual needs. Dr. Justin’s children were all adjusted by him the day they were born.

Are babies adjusted the same way as adults?

No. Infant care involves very gentle techniques with minimal pressure. A newborn is never treated with the same force or methods that may be appropriate for an adult.

Is pediatric chiropractic care safe?

Yes. But no healthcare treatment is completely without risk. Available research suggests that minor, temporary reactions occur rarely after pediatric manual treatment. Careful screening, age-appropriate techniques, informed parental consent, and referral when necessary are essential.

Can chiropractic care help my baby sleep?

Parents in our office report that their babies seem more comfortable or sleep better following care. Research has not established chiropractic care as a treatment for routine sleep problems and results may vary from clinic to clinic.

Does every child need regular chiropractic adjustments?

Not necessarily, but it is important to have your child checked by a vetted chiropractor. We do not believe that every child automatically needs ongoing chiropractic treatment, but signs that they should be adjusted could be hidden. Recommendations should be based on examination findings, symptoms, functional needs, response to care, and the family’s goals.

Can chiropractic care help a young athlete?

Chiropractic care may help address appropriate muscle and joint pain, stiffness, or movement limitations. We may also provide mobility exercises, strengthening recommendations, and guidance for returning to activity. No treatment out there can guarantee your child will be a professional athlete or prevent every injury, but our patients tend to report improved performance.

Will you work with my child’s pediatrician?

Yes. Pediatric chiropractic care should be part of a collaborative healthcare approach. When appropriate, we will recommend medical evaluation, imaging, physical therapy, orthopedics, or another form of care.
